Review of the internet. Is it ‘qualified’? Case Study: soy milk.
I’ve been drinking Soy milk for a long time, because cow milk is no good for me. It makes me feel sick. But soy makes me feel good, and it tastes great in my coffee. The only time i drink it is in a coffee though, because i mostly drink water. Cereal is no good for me either, so i have toast for breakfast. I am a self-diagnosed lactose and fibre intolerant person.
Anyway, now my sister tells me she has read bad things about soy milk. I check the internet and it’s bad news – for men soy can cause low sperm count and can turn you into a woman (estrogen overload), it’s bad for the thyroid, even gives you cancer!, etc, the list goes on…
So naturally i feel bad, because i’ve been giving it to my daughter (she’s 3, and she loves soy). So i too turn to the net for answers, and what happens – i read the same thing over and over again. It’s like some shaman once posted something about the dangers of soy, and it sounded authentic, and then a whole bunch of other sites around the world copied it, changing a few words here and there, and cashed in. Meanwhile soy milk is being sold in supermarkets around the world, off the shelf, and you don’t need to be over 18 to buy it! it doesn’t get you high, but it’s supposedly incredibly bad for you. Amazing!
So I find a whole website devoted to the evils of soy, from a bunch of ‘concerned citizens’. Now firstly i ask you - who is concerned enough about soy milk as to start a website about it? Especially when everyone else has already said the same things about soy, and yet, conversely, so little is known about the dangers of eating shit!! The motives of these sites intrigued me, so i checked the site footer of the SoyOnline site (NZ site) and followed the link to the sponsor company which…. der…. provides (among other things) ….services to the dairy industry.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS-
So all it basically adds up to is, take the internet with a grain of salt. And, if you are predisposed to a condition, then don’t increase your intake of the chemicals that would aggravate that condition. Consult a nutritionalist or doctor. Do not accept a referral to a proctologist under any circumstances! Also, do not consult the internet if you are gullible. So many people are encouraged to ‘make up their own minds’ by reviewing different ‘articles’ on the net, but the only motives for posting propaganda on the internet are commercial.
Here is said dodgy anti-soy propaganda site. - http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/index.htm
