My Jealous Barber
In Australia we are very lucky to have a free to air television station that broadcasts foreign films.
One such showing was the film, “My Jealous Barber” , from Norway.
The main character in the film is Bent. That’s his name. Don’t jump to any conclusions.
Bent is a shy man who is not quite up to asserting himself. He spends his time quietly going about his business and “thinking” about things. Along the way he meets some characters that impacts him and vice versa.
The film focuses on his relationship with his barber where Bent has been a loyal customer for some time. It sounds mundane but it is far from it. There are elements of dark humour mixed in with an underlying sense that Bent deserves better then what is being dished up to him. He falls in love with another quirky character and together with the barber they each make some discoveries about themselves.
I love the quirky style of this film as well as it’s appealing slice of life feel that it conveys. Seek it out and watch it late one night…
